The Calling of Elisha...the abandoning of Jennifer

* Jennifer, I am still crazy about you. I still think about you everyday. But its time for me to follow the other possibilities that have arisen....to follow Elijah. {I will never. ever. forget you}

---------------------------------The LORD said to him, "Go back the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus. When you get there, anoint Hazael king over Aram. Also, anoint Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah to succeed you as prophet.
(1 Kings 19:15)
-------The Calling of Elisha – This is the End. (Goodbye Jennifer)...the thoughts of Elisha before leaving to follow Elijah]

Jennifer, loving you
thinking about you endlessly
is plowing with many yoke of oxen on fertile ground
green grass, moist dirt, flanked by virile tress branches full of leaves
anticipatory for the seeds of hope sown
deep
deep
deep in my soul. I want us to be together so bad
and yield a bounteous harvest
and bring it back to my house to cook, to eat, to relax
in blissful contentment...watching you sleep as
the sunrise uncovers the evening's best kept secret: your beautiful face
your lips, your nose, your dark hair soft to
touch
my desire for you is too strong for just 22 oxen full of zeal
Everyday anxiety forces me to drive the 12th pair

But your boyfriend is the waning post of prophet for Elijah
necessitating a new direction, steering me down an unknown road
away from your bittersweet loyalty to him...
for it is Elijah's cloak tossed
enfolding my shoulders urging me to press on
and chase after the winds of destiny (my cloak billowing)
to a people who need me beckoning
soliciting miracles in a depraved land
even if I keep crying at night because you aren't there with me
and my confidence is swept away in a flaming chariot in a whirlwind

Jennifer let me hold the plow one last time
let me dwell upon your green eyes one last time
before I slaughter my desire and yearning
(all 12 pairs)
and set all my memories of our friendship ablaze
I don’t want to till the ground anymore
I just want to sit with my friends and family while I mourn for you
eating one last time

(I don't know you very well, but I could've loved you more than anyone Ive ever loved Jennifer. You had that potential. I will miss you dearly, but obviously Jesus (Elijiah) has other plans for me. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the Name of the Lord. Amen.)

The Call of Elisha /1 Kings 19:19-21
So Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak around him. Elisha then left his oxen and ran after Elijah. "Let me kiss my father and mother good-by," he said, "and then I will come with you." "Go back," Elijah replied. "What have I done to you?" So Elisha left him and went back. He took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He burned the plowing equipment to cook the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out to follow Elijah and became his attendant.

------------Underoath – To Whom It May Concern (Lyrics)-----------

So hold your head up high and know
Its not the end of the road
Walk down this beaten path before
You pack your things and head home
At the end of the road
You'll find what you've been longing for
You'll find what you've been longing for

I know 'cause my feet have the scares to show
I was lost with vague direction and no place to call home

It's time for you to press on
This is not your war
Set your sights, set your sights to North, press on, press on
This is not your escape
This is not your escape
Wash away what they thought of you and press on, press on

Cause in this place were all as good as dead
End cycle
Cause in this place were all as good as dead
End cycle press on

Behind the mask you'll find yourself alone
Its not the end of the road, the end of the road for you

At the end of the road
You'll find what you've been longing for

At the end of the road
You'll find what you've been longing for

At the end of the road
You'll find what you've been longing for

At the end of the road
You'll find what you've been longing for
