No Nostalgia Anymore

Dedicated to St. Peter. Pray for us

“Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee”

-----------------------------/Burning Bridges To Jerusalem: Peter’s Thoughts at Jesus Calling Him Satan

When a child is born death smirks and disease warms
Its fingers at opportunistic fires, the moon wrinkles
worn and heavy laden at the calamities it inadvertently illumines at it
wolves
howl a pleading of sorts for hunger to end, yet more sublimely
for its obligatory feeding habits entrenched in bloodshed to cease
for peace
for a reprieve
virgins sigh encumbered shoulders quiver, heavy jars heavier though
their desire to be honored as human beings
when the next sun rises….as if their plight, their whole life experience
would be a dream wished away
a day sobriety and fairness rises and stands resolute instituting a new order
when dead daughters resurrect to new life at a command
and demoniacs tear off crazed insanity as shorn clothes and embrace sophistication
when unwieldy winds and waves fall down in obeisance
at the rationality of a man who wants to spare his friends’ more sufferance
when bread, fish and wine are a means to an end, and not agonizing flirtations
with hades
when a man can walk on water and inspire the world to get out its own boat
of doubting, and to focus on the moment not the shores
or their leviathans of adversity
(a dead man walks wearing his bandages as clothing mockery)
making even the most absurd of hopes a possibility
…if the realization of that day, this day, was a shooting star
would you blame anyone for breaking all rules and convention and decorum
to chase it the universe over, my whole life
a pointless wandering from vapid duty to meaningless muse
can anyone point a finger at me
if I never want things to go back to the way they were?

------------------Matthew 16:16-23
And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.  And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ. From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
