uncertain if any around me are aware of the inanity
of being faceless, and nameless
in crowds grasping to touch you

even jealous at your philanthropy
though in utter sincerity all you want to do is

prior to the sun rising above my head
warming my face
for a love real not stilted
or predicated on healing leprosy or raising men
from the sleep of death
but for a real woman with real emotions

chasing the incredulity away
welcoming enduring affinity
so we could be together forever

my triumphs and misunderstandings

Avoiding the spots where we'd have to speak,

Is taking me home

To blankets and sheets
