+--------Freedom, Truly; Paul's Last Words To His Friends Before His Death

And so dont cry…for this is what
Ive always ever desired, what I
heard in the sky pre-blind and bigoted
galloping apace for Damascus angry,
my horse standing on two
legs like a Roman soldier with
a scuffed shield, parrying
attacks in the Macedonian war.
The consoling counsel-speak of the
Angel in prison later- a philosophy
I then embraced: this biased trial in
Jerusalem notwithstanding: “To live
is Christ, Paul...to die is gain.”

------Acts 21:7-15
We continued our voyage from Tyre and landed at Ptolemais, where we greeted the brothers and sisters and stayed with them for a day. Leaving the next day, we reached Caesarea and stayed at the house of Philip the evangelist, one of the Seven. He had four unmarried daughters who prophesied. After we had been there a number of days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. Coming over to us, he took Paul’s belt, tied his own hands and feet with it and said, “The Holy Spirit says, ‘In this way the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem will bind the owner of this belt and will hand him over to the Gentiles.’” When we heard this, we and the people there pleaded with Paul not to go up to Jerusalem. Then Paul answered, “Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” When he would not be dissuaded, we gave up and said, “The Lord’s will be done.” After this, we started on our way up to Jerusalem. Some of the disciples from Caesarea accompanied us and brought us to the home of Mnason, where we were to stay. He was a man from Cyprus and one of the early disciples.

And Taylor, being single is the sting
of dust particles sandal-thrust in my
eyes by sanctimonious, soiled-robed
dating refusals as a primitive mob uncouth,
my flanked soul battered, flung a lacerated
skin-and-bone heap, my smile’s arms
limp; true tears of a heart orphan. And
I feel every girl I know is a jagged stone
lusting to pelt me into despair-death.
But babes if you take me to Starbucks,
clouds parting as I gaze hopeful skyward.
Your kiss’d be you standing stately
(as usual) in heaven, staring at me from a
blonde haired, blue eyed throne of beauty.
My love life’d rise again over steam of tea.

------Acts 7:51-60
“You stiff-necked people! Your hearts and ears are still uncircumcised. You are just like your ancestors: You always resist the Holy Spirit!  Was there ever a prophet your ancestors did not persecute? They even killed those who predicted the coming of the Righteous One. And now you have betrayed and murdered him— you who have received the law that was given through angels but have not obeyed it.” When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul. While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.

+--------The Romantic Martyrdom Of Tony Conti; The Sweet Starbucks' Salvation Of Taylor Swift

Taylor, I know the pangs of
singleness, I do: Abraham waking
abruptly, abandoning amenities
of city life in Ur for things unknown,
Joseph thrown in a refuse pit as
holocaust for diverse pleasures
of vagabonds touring Egypt , Moses
sand-wandering, angst of the desert
fox, resisting the urge to sling hewn tablets
from a Mountain at a mob moaning
incessant; King David selling his sacred
soul for sensuality, Solomon pagan
prostrate in a once monotheistic temple,
belying his conscience. Oh babes, what Im
trying to say is my heart is scarred, an
embattled disciple of Romance-seeking
flanked by torn emotions as raging peoples
frothing at the mouth with jagged rocks.
And every female rejection Ive known feels
like a projectile to the head, splayed blood,
a gashed spleen before raucous jeers.
If you’d take me to Starbucks, it’d be
joyous clouds parting before me, rays
of hope. I’d see you standing before your
emerald celestial throne: blonde, blue eyed,
tall, simply divine. I’d whisper – “take me
with you…kiss me” before dying to dating
refusals, rising to new life. Your boyfriend.
The martyr.

+--------A Warrior's Tribunal; Daniel's Speech In The Lion's Den

And what can you tell beasts
of prey emasculated but that
with them you commiserate fully:
a Hebrew prophet in captivity seething,
his nation’s pride/soul collective
scattered on Persia's soil with Solomonic
temple ruins, women barbarian-raped,
young men cleric-brainwashed by a
villainous, reprobate, perverted, savage,
grotesque pagan practice abolishing
Moses’s Law on all consciences? That
the shackles on your wrists correspond to
their lion heart-chains, warriors once now
in a dank dark cave, no deer to chase, no
one to hear their truth in growling: that the
wilderness is no place for the weak. I tell
them – if you’d only bear with me, when
God sets me free, I swear Ill do the same.

------Daniel 6:6-23
So these administrators and satraps went as a group to the king and said: “May King Darius live forever! The royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers and governors have all agreed that the king should issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or human being during the next thirty days, except to you, Your Majesty, shall be thrown into the lions’ den. Now, Your Majesty, issue the decree and put it in writing so that it cannot be altered—in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.” So King Darius put the decree in writing. Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before. Then these men went as a group and found Daniel praying and asking God for help. So they went to the king and spoke to him about his royal decree: “Did you not publish a decree that during the next thirty days anyone who prays to any god or human being except to you, Your Majesty, would be thrown into the lions’ den?”
The king answered, “The decree stands—in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.” Then they said to the king, “Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, Your Majesty, or to the decree you put in writing. He still prays three times a day.”  When the king heard this, he was greatly distressed; he was determined to rescue Daniel and made every effort until sundown to save him. Then the men went as a group to King Darius and said to him, “Remember, Your Majesty, that according to the law of the Medes and Persians no decree or edict that the king issues can be changed.” So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions’ den. The king said to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you!” A stone was brought and placed over the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet ring and with the rings of his nobles, so that Daniel’s situation might not be changed. Then the king returned to his palace and spent the night without eating and without any entertainment being brought to him. And he could not sleep. At the first light of dawn, the king got up and hurried to the lions’ den. When he came near the den, he called to Daniel in an anguished voice, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?” Daniel answered, “May the king live forever! My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.” The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den. And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.

Hathak went back and reported to Esther what Mordecai had said. Then she instructed him to say to Mordecai, “All the king’s officials and the people of the royal provinces know that for any man or woman who approaches the king in the inner court without being summoned the king has but one law: that they be put to death unless the king extends the gold scepter to them and spares their lives. But thirty days have passed since I was called to go to the king.” When Esther’s words were reported to Mordecai, he sent back this answer: “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.” So Mordecai went away and carried out all of Esther’s instructions.

Your Wedding; My Beast-Mark

+--------Your Wedding; My Beast-Mark

I kind of knew I sold my soul to sin-sulks
when we met, sparkling turquoise eyes
of The Dragon implacable to my flirting
(no hide no scales), smiles and words to
make me smolder. Dilapidated buildings,
charred trees, my cursed Antichrist
screaming at all other girls. Your body was
a strange beast rising out of seas of sexy,
my emotions bowing stunned before 7
curly brown heads, 10 horns with 10 breast
-crowns of ineffable beauty. Your charm,
sweet conversation a second beast with 2
lamb horns calling joy as fire from heaven.
You see, I erected your image in my heart;
Thoughts of you were 6-6-6 imprints on
the forehead, right hand. And though your
wedding uttered damning blasphemies
against prospects of us together, I cant
spurn this “mark” of us in Georgetown, DC.
I cant buy or sell happiness without it.

------Revelation Chapter 13
And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. If any man have an ear, let him hear. He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

+--------The Two Brothers Of Tony Conti's Desire To Date Taylor Swift

And Taylor, I know all the
insinuated ideal intentions,
innocent, Edenic, of those around
me: a non-celebrity woman: Abel, a
peaceful shepherd, kindly, common,
tending (tamed), to wooly tender
bleating flocks of romance’s mundane.
And I know you hate that, the fat
portion offerings of the firstborn of
flocks of monotony. You with Cain-
passion’s harvest rage in your eyes
born of soil of living your wheat grain
Rock Star’s Life with abandon,
heart ablaze with pure soul music.
If you took me to Starbucks, two
Earl Grey teas in a field. An invitation
for me to watch the fratricide of
dichotomy – my wants versus need,
things bland slain by joy. Our kiss like
staring into your blue eyes, you
whispering to me rhetorically “Am
I my brother’s keeper?” We would
run away to Nod, east of Eden,
fully in love, smirking, marked.

------Genesis 4:1-16
Adam made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, “With the help of the Lord I have brought forth a man.” Later she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” “I don’t know,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?” The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground. Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.” Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is more than I can bear. Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me.” But the Lord said to him, “Not so; anyone who kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over.” Then the Lord put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him.  So Cain went out from the Lord’s presence and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden.

+--------A Dirge For Dreamers; Benjamin's Eulogy At Joseph's Funeral

As a child in our tent, I remember
his smiling at night sleeping
in that variegated coat, an angel
marching proudly in winged sandals-
his arms extended upwards, fingers
clasping, thirsting unconsciously
even then for a scepter. And SO much
has changed since then! We
languishing, descending into famine,
curse of brothers' betrayal’s barter-he
ascending from pit to prison to Egypt’s
prince, emblem of God’s provision for
his chosen. I love Joseph for his mercy.
For teaching to us all to hold fast to
dreams despite dire cost, because
if you do, in the end, they come true.
(The sun, moon and stars of the
impossible really do bow)

------Genesis 50:15-26
When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “What if Joseph holds a grudge against us and pays us back for all the wrongs we did to him?” So they sent word to Joseph, saying, “Your father left these instructions before he died: ‘This is what you are to say to Joseph: I ask you to forgive your brothers the sins and the wrongs they committed in treating you so badly.’ Now please forgive the sins of the servants of the God of your father.” When their message came to him, Joseph wept. His brothers then came and threw themselves down before him. “We are your slaves,” they said. But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.” And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them. Joseph stayed in Egypt, along with all his father’s family. He lived a hundred and ten years and saw the third generation of Ephraim’s children. Also the children of Makir son of Manasseh were placed at birth on Joseph’s knees. Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die. But God will surely come to your aid and take you up out of this land to the land he promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.” And Joseph made the Israelites swear an oath and said, “God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up from this place.” So Joseph died at the age of a hundred and ten. And after they embalmed him, he was placed in a coffin in Egypt.

John Mayer, how dare you ruin Taylor Swift's Birthday dawg!

+--------Revenge For The Levite

John Mayer (of Gibeah), I know your sin
I know your murderous
dismembering crass code of verbal
ethics, the slaughter of Taylor Swift’s
birthday spirit as an innocent Levite
concubine's limp arm stretched for
civility's door stoop. And my love for her
is Israel’s army One, raging against
your Benjamite ideals. Though you struck
her first with “lamest”cruelty, 700 left
-handed troops who can sling a stone
at a hair and not miss, 22,000 soldiers
of her enthusiasm felled, my zeal for your
fledgling career dying is the craftiest
counterattack. A mention of your pop
culture irrelevance as an ambush
at Baal Tamor: 25,000 soldiers of your
hip-guy delusions dying slowly: arrow-
staked livers, seeing the face of ghosts.
The remnant of your dignity like 600
cowering men fleeing to seek a wilderness
of anonymity as I put your raspy annoying
voice to swords of disdain. Your future
record sales: animals, people, gardens
in unsuspecting towns, set on revenge
-fire asleep. My black smoke rising.
All your smugness burning.

------Judges 20:8-48
All the men rose up together as one, saying, “None of us will go home. No, not one of us will return to his house. But now this is what we’ll do to Gibeah: We’ll go up against it in the order decided by casting lots. We’ll take ten men out of every hundred from all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred from a thousand, and a thousand from ten thousand, to get provisions for the army. Then, when the army arrives at Gibeah in Benjamin, it can give them what they deserve for this outrageous act done in Israel.” So all the Israelites got together and united as one against the city. The tribes of Israel sent messengers throughout the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “What about this awful crime that was committed among you? Now turn those wicked men of Gibeah over to us so that we may put them to death and purge the evil from Israel.” But the Benjamites would not listen to their fellow Israelites. From their towns they came together at Gibeah to fight against the Israelites. At once the Benjamites mobilized twenty-six thousand swordsmen from their towns, in addition to seven hundred able young men from those living in Gibeah. Among all these soldiers there were seven hundred select troops who were left-handed, each of whom could sling a stone at a hair and not miss.
Israel, apart from Benjamin, mustered four hundred thousand swordsmen, all of them fit for battle. The Israelites went up to Bethel and inquired of God. They said, “Who of us is to go up first to fight against the Benjamites?” The Lord replied, “Judah shall go first.” The next morning the Israelites got up and pitched camp near Gibeah. The Israelites went out to fight the Benjamites and took up battle positions against them at Gibeah. The Benjamites came out of Gibeah and cut down twenty-two thousand Israelites on the battlefield that day. But the Israelites encouraged one another and again took up their positions where they had stationed themselves the first day. The Israelites went up and wept before the Lord until evening, and they inquired of the Lord. They said, “Shall we go up again to fight against the Benjamites, our fellow Israelites?” The Lord answered, “Go up against them.” Then the Israelites drew near to Benjamin the second day. This time, when the Benjamites came out from Gibeah to oppose them, they cut down another eighteen thousand Israelites, all of them armed with swords. Then all the Israelites, the whole army, went up to Bethel, and there they sat weeping before the Lord. They fasted that day until evening and presented burnt offerings and fellowship offerings to the Lord. And the Israelites inquired of the Lord. (In those days the ark of the covenant of God was there, with Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, ministering before it.) They asked, “Shall we go up again to fight against the Benjamites, our fellow Israelites, or not?” The Lord responded, “Go, for tomorrow I will give them into your hands.” Then Israel set an ambush around Gibeah. They went up against the Benjamites on the third day and took up positions against Gibeah as they had done before. The Benjamites came out to meet them and were drawn away from the city. They began to inflict casualties on the Israelites as before, so that about thirty men fell in the open field and on the roads—the one leading to Bethel and the other to Gibeah. While the Benjamites were saying, “We are defeating them as before,” the Israelites were saying, “Let’s retreat and draw them away from the city to the roads.” All the men of Israel moved from their places and took up positions at Baal Tamar, and the Israelite ambush charged out of its place on the west of Gibeah. Then ten thousand of Israel’s able young men made a frontal attack on Gibeah. The fighting was so heavy that the Benjamites did not realize how near disaster was. The Lord defeated Benjamin before Israel, and on that day the Israelites struck down 25,100 Benjamites, all armed with swords. Then the Benjamites saw that they were beaten. Now the men of Israel had given way before Benjamin, because they relied on the ambush they had set near Gibeah. Those who had been in ambush made a sudden dash into Gibeah, spread out and put the whole city to the sword. The Israelites had arranged with the ambush that they should send up a great cloud of smoke from the city, and then the Israelites would counterattack. The Benjamites had begun to inflict casualties on the Israelites (about thirty), and they said, “We are defeating them as in the first battle.” But when the column of smoke began to rise from the city, the Benjamites turned and saw the whole city going up in smoke. Then the Israelites counterattacked, and the Benjamites were terrified, because they realized that disaster had come on them. So they fled before the Israelites in the direction of the wilderness, but they could not escape the battle. And the Israelites who came out of the towns cut them down there. They surrounded the Benjamites, chased them and easily overran them in the vicinity of Gibeah on the east. Eighteen thousand Benjamites fell, all of them valiant fighters. As they turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, the Israelites cut down five thousand men along the roads. They kept pressing after the Benjamites as far as Gidom and struck down two thousand more.
On that day twenty-five thousand Benjamite swordsmen fell, all of them valiant fighters. But six hundred of them turned and fled into the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, where they stayed four months. The men of Israel went back to Benjamin and put all the towns to the sword, including the animals and everything else they found. All the towns they came across they set on fire.

+--------Taylor Swift's Davidic Strength Despite Tony Conti's Benjamite Loathing
Taylor, all treasonous epithets, all my
self-loathing, coup-inducing lonely
thoughts of singleness are of the house
of Benjamin, a displaced kinsman
of a pure bloodline of girls’ dating
refusals incensed at prospects
of romance: Shimei hurling insults
“Get out, get out, you [girl] of [misery’s]
bloodshed, and worthless [gal]” as
stones at thoughts of us kissing. But
you are true Davidic mirth enfleshed, my
Ruler of Hope- tall, stately, blonde,
resilient, beautiful; lips as soft as
feathers wind-plucked from angels
ascending -apace with two coffee
cups for Bahurim, city of sentiment’s
refuge. To stare into your blue eyes there
(at Starbucks) would be Royal solace,
Mighty Men of comfort raising heart
-settling swords to threaten my distress:
Like you whispering “Tony, don’t worry…
the Throne of Us will be reclaimed soon”

------2 Samuel 16:5-13
When King David came to Bahurim, behold, there came out from there a man of the family of the house of Saul whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera; he came out cursing continually as he came. He threw stones at David and at all the servants of King David; and all the people and all the mighty men were at his right hand and at his left. Thus Shimei said when he cursed, “Get out, get out, you man of bloodshed, and worthless fellow! The Lord has returned upon you all the bloodshed of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned; and the Lord has given the kingdom into the hand of your son Absalom. And behold, you are taken in your own evil, for you are a man of bloodshed!” Then Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, “Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me go over now and [a]cut off his head.” But the king said, “What have I to do with you, O sons of Zeruiah? If he curses, and if the Lord has told him, ‘Curse David,’ then who shall say, ‘Why have you done so?’” Then David said to Abishai and to all his servants, “Behold, my son who came out from [b]me seeks my life; how much more now this Benjamite? Let him alone and let him curse, for the Lord has told him. Perhaps the Lord will look on my affliction and return good to me instead of his cursing this day.” So David and his men went on the way; and Shimei went along on the hillside parallel with him and as he went he cursed and cast stones and threw dust at him.

+--------My Life A Dream; Joseph's Thoughts In The Pit

I just cant shake these lucid visions,
day or night I swear it’s the strong
scent of grain fields on my bedsheet
or shirt, my aromatic future already
God-sown and reaped; I randomly cover
my ears, bracing for thunderous
snapping of sheaves, stalks
as my brothers’ kneel before mine in
homage. And everyone around thinks Im
delusional- I squint my eyes whimsically
deferring to grand effulgence of sun, moon,
stars always bowing to me. Its all so real,
of my great destiny Im so sure…that even
in betrayal's pit I don’t mourn. I know how
to bide my time: I hold fast to dreams.

------Genesis 37:5-9;19-28
Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. He said to them, “Listen to this dream I had: We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it.” His brothers said to him, “Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?” And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he had said. Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. “Listen,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.” “Here comes that dreamer!” they said to each other. “Come now, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns and say that a ferocious animal devoured him. Then we’ll see what comes of his dreams.” When Reuben heard this, he tried to rescue him from their hands. “Let’s not take his life,” he said. “Don’t shed any blood. Throw him into this cistern here in the wilderness, but don’t lay a hand on him.” Reuben said this to rescue him from them and take him back to his father. So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe—the ornate robe he was wearing— and they took him and threw him into the cistern. The cistern was empty; there was no water in it. As they sat down to eat their meal, they looked up and saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead. Their camels were loaded with spices, balm and myrrh, and they were on their way to take them down to Egypt. Judah said to his brothers, “What will we gain if we kill our brother and cover up his blood? Come, let’s sell him to the Ishmaelites and not lay our hands on him; after all, he is our brother, our own flesh and blood.” His brothers agreed. So when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern and sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt.

+--------A Persistent Belief; Abram's Thoughts On God's Promise

“I have known you exasperated;
a deer parched, hollow eyed, before
dust swirling from a cracked riverbed,
of ambition. I have known your back
scars, soul wounds, plodding
homeless against trunks of trees of
Mamre the Amorite praying for hope
heaven spoken. I know your wife’s
womb seeking to be opened to birth
nations. And yes, you will be father
to the world, stars as children.” This is
what God promised, to an old man
barely alive. But I believe. Somehow,
I believe Him.

------Genesis 15:1-7
After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision:
“Do not be afraid, Abram.
    I am your shield,
    your very great reward.”
But Abram said, “Sovereign Lord, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?” And Abram said, “You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir.” Then the word of the Lord came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.” He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness. He also said to him, “I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to take possession of it.”

+------------"The Promise (To Kirk Cousins)"

Kirk your greatest strength is your
belief in NFL things unseen,
a Lombardi trophy as a son- though
the Redskins organization, Sarai your
wife incredulous, has many severe years
nursed a barren womb. Your pittance’s
franchise tag like her illegitimate heir. But
look up to the sky (keep throwing balls deep),
your victories shall be as innumerable as
stars. Do not be afraid Desean Jackson
is your shield, Josh Norman your
very great reward. And the Eagles are just
a shanty town in the land of Canaan given
you. You’ll annihilate them: the King of Sodom.

Three Tinder Spirits

+--------Three Tinder Spirits; The Thoughts Of Shadrach Before Being Thrown In The Furnace

And what can comfort us in a
banal life, captive? Our bodies spared,
our minds always shackled to
obstinacy of belief of dreams of the
return of King David. Glorification of
Israel. Of music: from HIS horn, pipe,
lyre, harp, bagpipe -rather than ones
Chaldean. And the food here
disgusts, the arrogance of Babylonian
satraps unnerving. We’d willingly walk
through fire, our skin tinder of a furnace’s
flame-lust, than bow down and approve a
false god vile, a pagan curse on our people.

------Daniel 3:13-18
Then Nebuchadnezzar in furious rage commanded that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought. So they brought these men before the king. Nebuchadnezzar answered and said to them, “Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the golden image that I have set up? Now if you are ready when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, well and good. But if you do not worship, you shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you out of my hands?” Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.

Taylor Swift and Tony Conti On The Other Side Of The Red Sea #TaylorDateTony

+--------Taylor Swift and Tony Conti On The Other Side Of The Red Sea

And Taylor I know singleness is Egypt
in antiquity. I know Hebrew feet
blisters, lesions, scabs from hot sands
of overtures cut short, I know balled-fist
bruises of fears of being alone,
taskmasters who don ragged wigs under
dingy headdress. No girl-smile-ligatures
to heal, sleep with tears as bleeding
wounds beneath a stoic dispassionate
moon. Oh babes, deliver me, my heart a
nation enslaved restless? I imagine you
wroth, a night's dash with Starbucks cups
in hand: plagues of horror to comfort
this bitterness: lice, bloody diseased water,
death of my firstborn dateless scars. You’d
stand at the Red Sea of Impossible’s edge
-blonde hair like the sun, blue eyes like the
open skies, soft lips of rare heroism- stretch
out your hand, touch my face, whisper
“follow me….” and I’d run to the other side
of freedom with you on dry land fleeing
the cruelest of love's Pharaohs.

------Exodus 14:15-22
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen.” Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long. Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.

+--------Your Prison; Jesus' Words To The Rich Young Ruler

And the wind does speak, if you let it
…zephyr-lisped prophecies on skin,
dusk whispers of sacred secrets
of a creation once united. If youre
able to perk your ears, the morn’s sun
paeans its love, a bridegroom
beaming boisterously. Trees smile at
birds branch-comforted. Humans
laugh together without guile. All is One:
the beast/foliage, man/woman, earthy/
ethereal Cosmos. Sell your possessions,
come follow me; with threadbare sandals
rock-and-dust riven see a life Divine
you never knew

-----Matthew 19:16-23
Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” “Which ones?” he inquired.
Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,’and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’” “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?” Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven.

+--------The Last Supper; Jesus' Address To His Disciples Before Eating

And this will be the best Seder for
…it is the last. The blessed soil
that nurtured the herbs, the intense gaze
of sunlight guiding dreams of holy
wheat of our bread prepped unleavened,
the noble lamb, knees bent and pious,
eyes closed, before the baleful blade
that spewed its blood, grapes that
pleaded from the vine to be our wine –
memorialized; The warmth from your eyes
above these flickering candles singing:
frozen in time forever. I will etch everything
eternally on my heart as I pass from this life
nailed to wood, to the next.......I promise.

------John 13:1-5
It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

+------------Pregnant Together; Hannah's Prayer

And God you’ve seen me
many summers, slouched on the
brook’s bank, feet grief-stilled
in the night’s cool rushing stream, my
head in my arms, tear-wet hair, arms
on my knees bent (in prayer)…your zephyrs
on occasion providing no comfort. You
know my heart, sorrow-rotted. Oh
if you answered me, if only I had
dignity in this tabernacle/society, for just
one day. A womb really pregnant,
not just with expectation this time..
Just say yes…and I swear…my boy
will be your boy…we’ll raise this son,
these hopes.....together.

-----------------1 Samuel 1:3-15
Year after year this man went up from his town to worship and sacrifice to the Lord Almighty at Shiloh, where Hophni and Phinehas, the two sons of Eli, were priests of the Lord. Whenever the day came for Elkanah to sacrifice, he would give portions of the meat to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters. But to Hannah he gave a double portion because he loved her, and the Lord had closed her womb. Because the Lord had closed Hannah’s womb, her rival kept provoking her in order to irritate her. This went on year after year. Whenever Hannah went up to the house of the Lord, her rival provoked her till she wept and would not eat. Her husband Elkanah would say to her, “Hannah, why are you weeping? Why don’t you eat? Why are you downhearted? Don’t I mean more to you than ten sons?” Once when they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh, Hannah stood up. Now Eli the priest was sitting on his chair by the doorpost of the Lord’s house. In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly.  And she made a vow, saying, “Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.”
As she kept on praying to the Lord, Eli observed her mouth. Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk and said to her, “How long are you going to stay drunk? Put away your wine.” “Not so, my lord,” Hannah replied, “I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the Lord. Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.”

+--------The Vikings' Walls Of Jericho

Dak, the D-line of the Vikings
of Minnesota, but a tenuous
Canaanite wall to you, Sam Bradford
a denizen of Jericho trembling. Your
accurate passes, nimble evasion of
linebackers, a sacred wood chest
pure gold layered; Hoisted on shoulders
of your coach and owner as smiling
proud priests advancing first. And
Zeke, Dez, your O-line, stout soldiers,
patrol each play menacingly,
like an army 6 times the circumference
of a nervous enemy once for 3 quarters
scoring. In the 4th, when you rush
for a TD, it’ll be like marching 7 times
blowing celebratory trumpets. The wall
of the Vikings’ joy will collapse...
all playoff hopes razed to the ground.

------Joshua 5:13-6:5
Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?” “Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, “What message does my Lord have for his servant?” The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so. Now the gates of Jericho were securely barred because of the Israelites. No one went out and no one came in. Then the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.”
